During your preparation, keep in mind the following things:

  • Be cautious as you describe your reasons for leaving your job. If you’re quitting because you’re unsatisfied with your salary, your responsibilities, your boss, or any other similar circumstance, don’t say them to the hiring manager. Instead, focus on one specific thing that you were able to gain through your experience in your current position. This will enable them to view you as positive and ethical.

  • Be authentic as you share your reasons. What do you wish to gain if you get this new position? What opportunities for growth will you be able to obtain that aren’t possible in your current job?

Here’s an example of how you can answer this question:

“I learned so much from my time in my current job! For example, I was able to learn more about how to effectively work in a team. However, this new position would be a huge opportunity for professional and personal growth, since it would give me more opportunities to give training and lead other teams.”

Use this as a guideline to prepare for your interview. Good luck!
